Planet Fitness Tanning (Beginner’s Guide)

Everyone wants that golden, glowing skin. But it’s not always possible to go to the beach and lay down under the sun. That’s when tanning beds come as helpful.

At Planet Fitness, they offer tanning facilities to their members. You can use them, and fulfill your tanning goals.

How Does Tanning Work at Planet Fitness?

Almost all Planet Fitness offers Tanning facilities. However, keep in mind that only black card members can make use of it. 

Tanning beds are yet another perk for PF Black card members, along with saunas and massagers. The black card will cost around $10 more than the basic membership or in other words, $20 per month.

Now, how many times can you use the tanning facility? Well, there is theoretically no limit on how many times you can use it. However, it’s not safe to use it too much.

Each club would have dedicated areas for tanning, and these tanning stations are either vertical or horizontal. Vertical beds are rather more common and are also believed to be stronger in terms of tanning strength.

How To Use Tanning Beds At Planet Fitness?

The very first thing you need to do to use tanning beds in Planet Fitness, of course, is to get their black card. Once you have the black card, you can use the tanning beds whenever you wish, provided it’s not occupied. 

In order to use it, first go to the gym staff or the front desk executives. They will make necessary arrangements. 

It’s a must to wear goggles before using these beds, since the radiation coming from them is naturally harmful to the eyes. You can buy goggles either from the club, or from other stores. 

Keep in mind that sunglasses are not enough. Also, these goggles will cost you only a few bucks! 

Another thing you can preferably have is sunscreen creams. They provide better protection against UV rays without affecting much of the tanning results.

Once you have these two ready, it’s time to enter the station. You can be inside the machine for up to 9 minutes, although just 2 or 5 minutes are usually enough. Just tell the gym staff how long you wish to use the machine.

Upon entering the machine, the timer will start running. While there is nothing wrong with staying inside with clothes, going completely undressed will be a better option. 

If you have already been hitting beaches and all, you might already know about those awkward tan lines. Going completely naked will thus be a good idea while using tanning beds. If you are concerned about safety and privacy, keep in mind that PF usually does the needful to make it safe and private for members.

So, once the timer goes off, get dressed, get out of the machine, and go home. 

Once again, don’t take off your goggles! 

Also, avoid doing it every day, the optimum frequency is once or up to thrice a week.

Planet Fitness Tanning Rules

There aren’t too many complex rules regarding the use of  Planet fitness tanning beds. 

But here are some standard rules you need to follow:

  • Only Adults, or those aged 18 or more, are allowed to use tanning beds.
  • The Planet Fitness Black Card is a must to enjoy tanning facilities in their studios. Normal $10 plants won’t let you use facilities like tanning.
  • Use the machine when there’s gym staff present.
  • Goggles are a must; they won’t let you enter the tanning bed without wearing goggles. Also, keep in mind that sunglasses are not enough.

Should I Tan Before or After Working Out At Planet Fitness?

Well, there is no such rule stating whether you should tan before or after working out. However, both might have different impacts.

For some, a few minutes in the tanning bed might help in warming up before the workout. But this doesn’t happen to most people.

And, in most cases, tanning would rather make you relaxed or even tired. This can affect your workout performance significantly.

However, if you tan after the workout session, that ‘relaxing’ effect can bring comfort, and might help you recover faster.

So, it’d be better to tan after the workout than before it, although there aren’t any hard line rules.

Using tanning beds is a great way to get that Golden glow, especially during winters when sunlight hardly reaches you. However, keep in mind that too much tanning, especially machine tanning, can bring problems.

Upon constant exposure to UV rays, your skin may reach a condition of excess melanin production, and can cause burns or even cancer.

Ask the gym staff how frequently you can use tanning beds; my suggestion is once or a maximum of thrice a week.
